Stefan Berchtold | Silence.

Silence.

The video performance Ruhe! (Silence.) shows a static camera perspective on a grave overgrown with ivy. Sunlight finds its way only selectively through the foliage of the tree crown above and illuminates changing areas of the gravesite. Wind keeps the motif moving. Over the span of three minutes, the accelerated film fades into footage of a human figure, lying on a plank floor in the same perspective, with an alarm clock next to him. The ticking of the alarm clock becomes louder, while the level of all other sounds decreases. Shortly before the image of the grave has completely merged into the second motif, the alarm clock rings, the performer stops the alarm ringing and the film starts over again.
