In the audio/video installation What are my parents actually up to when I’m not around? (Was machen meine Eltern eigentlich, wenn ich nicht zu Hause bin?) four monitors show the artist’s parents creating sounds with various everyday objects from their kitchen. In loops and changing camera perspectives, hard cuts and freeze frames set the rhythm. Despite the clear indication the playback devices give, it is hardly noticeable that the respective footage was recorded 20 years apart (1998 and 2018).

Artist Statement:
One question that I encountered frequently when presenting this work is how I got these two older people to participate in this piece. While my mother just went along with it I had to work harder to convince my father before he agreed to take the first recordings. But let’s be honest: He makes a thoroughly convincing actor.
